We had a bit of fun this week, and hopefully made our own small contribution to the local community by performing a bike maintenance demonstration for one of the Cub Scout packs in Ditchling.
A couple of slots during an hour and a half window for the 8 – 10 year olds in Ditchling Primary School playground seemed to go down well with the youngsters, and they seemed to really enjoy it. The next generation of local cyclists were there in force, with 20 or so keen Cub Scouts along with their own bikes.
They were completing one of their cycling badges and with a mix of cycling skill practicals and bike theory, they all seemed to be attentive and fully engaged. We covered basic maintenance, how bikes work, workshop safety, helmets and clothing , lubrication and puncture repair.
My thanks to the Scout Leaders, without whom these lads & lasses wouldn't get to experience such things.
